Please Google make an open system of the self driving car

This is a copy of an answer I left on Larry Page’s Google Plus profile after another announcement about the progress of the self driving car:
How come you have a patent for the self driving taxi company in the USA? I always thought of you as a creative role model who wanted to change the world towards a better place.
Why not leaving the competition open? I really loved Jonathan Rosenberg’s blog entry in which you ask for openness. This inspired me in my PhD program a lot to make everything open.
I was so keen when you announced the self driving car as it was my childhood dream to have self driving cars in the world. (Visiting the United states in 2001 I learnt programming in high school and in my book I drafted my own first class Schema for a self driving car.)
After you announced the self driving car I was keen to build up the taxi company. Contributing to the progress in transportation and logistics and helping the process of automation.
There is much criticism against Google but after your recent TED talk I thought “Larry is really the guy who doesn’t care for money but wants to make progress to the world!” Before I often wondered why you didn’t take part in Bill Gates giving pledge. But I realized that you needed your capital for building stuff like the car or glasses. I thought that this is also an amazing way to change the world towards a better place.

In the talk you mentioned shared economy and too many cars in LA. I thought “Great, this is exactly where the Taxi company comes in.” and I was happy to realize that you already seem to have the same ideas. I even expected Google to create a taxi company.
Anyway please give the self driving car to the world and don’t own all the applications of it. Please build open systems and give people the chance to contribute to the ecosystem around the self driving car.
Closed systems will slow down the progress as you say yourself in the above mentioned blog article.

Building an Autocompletion on GWT screencast Part 2: Invoking The Remote Procedure Call

Hey everyone after posting my first screencast in this series reviewing the basic process for creating remote procedure calls in GWT we are now finally starting with the real tutorial for building an autocomplete service.
This tutorial (again hosted on wikipedia) covers the basic user interface meaning

how to integreate a SuggestBox instead of a textfield into the GWT Starter project
how to set up the neccessary stuff (extending a SuggestOracle) to fire a remote procedure call that requests suggestions if the user has typed something.
how to override the necessary methods from the SuggestOracle Interface

Teach First Germany – Why education is a Human right.

Today i want to introduce you to a project that is very important to me! It is called Teach First Germany and follows the model of the uk based idea of teach first (see wikipedia). I don’t know if one could really call it social entrepreneurship but I would do so!
Teach First was first introduced to me by Simon Turschner during a summer school in Guidel in 2008. For the last 2 years he has been working as a fellow teacher with teach first and has just helped to create this video:

Last year I applied for Teach First Germany. I am very happy about their effort and think it is a project that needs support! When I got accepted to my PhD program I decided to drop out of the application process which was everything but easy to decide. Even though I put the PhD over teach first at that time, this programm is still very important to me and I can perfectly see myself applying again after finnishing my PhD. I would also like to encourage you to consider applying at teach first!
Last but not least I want to thank all the fellows especially Simon at teach first for making this effort and commitment. You guys are great! We need more people like you!
